DOROTHY E. VAN ROEKEL

Dorothy Edna Van Roekel, the daughter of George and Lena (Hansen) Wolf was born on January 20, 1921 in Sheldon, Iowa. She received her education at the Sheldon Community School and at the Sheldon Junior College. She served as organist at St. Paul Lutheran Church for twenty-five years and for fifteen years as secretary at East Elementary School in Sheldon.
Dorothy was united in marriage to Abe Van Roekel on December 10, 1941 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon. The couple farmed near Sheldon and retired in January of 1989 when they moved into Sheldon. She passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 93 years, 6 months and 9 days.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Abe of 72 years; three children and their spouses, Leroy and Pat Van Roekel of British Columbia, Canada, Dennis and Debra Van Roekel of Fort Myers, Florida and Darla and Gary Schuler of Sheldon; six grandchildren, Darren, Kari, Ryan, Jodi, Paul and Andrew; ten great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Bruno Boll and a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Mabel Wolf.
