DONNA Y. BRINKMAN
Donna Yvonne Brinkman, the daughter of Paul and Luella (Winter) Rolston was born August 15, 1933 in Sheldon, Iowa. She received her education in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1950; she then attended UNI and received her degree in Elementary Education in 1952. On August 18, 1953, she was united in marriage to Ronald Leo Ron Brinkman at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon, Iowa; the young couple lived in Orange City where she taught for a year, before moving to Sheldon in 1954. Donna was a stay at home mom when the kids where young, she then went on to further her education, receiving a BA degree in Media/Library Science from Northwestern College in Orange City in 1972. From 1972-1981 she was the Media Librarian for the Sheldon Community School System; 1982-1983 she was the Media Producer for the Sheldon Mail-Sun; 1983-1987 she was the Center Director and Educator for Planned Parenthood of Mid-Iowa for Spencer and Storm Lake; 1987-2000 Career Center Coordinator/Special Projects for NCC; and in 1991 she received her Master of Arts in Adult and Higher Education Administration from USD; August of 2000- May 2004 she was the Alternative High School Coordinator/Tracker for NCC. Ron preceded her in death on March 28, 2012 in Sheldon. Donna remained in her home until moving into Fieldcrest in Sheldon. She passed away on Monday, November 9, 2015 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 82 years, 2 months and 25 days.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon; she was on the board of directors for Sheldon Rec. Trail, the Sanford Sheldon Hospital; Family Crisis Center and Decategorization Agency in Sioux Center. She was the Librarian for St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Pianist for the Church of the Brethren. She enjoyed music, reading, bridge, antiquing, biking, community service and her Florida Trips with Ron.
Donna is survived by her two children, a daughter, Shawn (Karl) Knudsen of Boise, Idaho; a son, Kurt Brinkman of West Jordan, Utah; one granddaughter, Emily Knudsen of Boise, Idaho; two brothers, Dr. Keith (Jan) Rolston of Sheldon; Dr. Doyle Rolston of Crescent Mill, CA; a sister, Roma (Hank) Keller of Lansing, KS; sisters-in-law, Jo Rolston and Ron Noordsy of Sheldon; and Ruth (Donald) Lenderink of Orange City, IA and other nieces, nephews, many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her step-mother, Ursula L. Rolston; a brother, Volney L. Rolston and a sister-in-law, Shirley Rolston.
