Darlene Schwarz, age 85, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at her home in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Monday, June 19, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Rev. Don Gordon, Darlene's Pastor at Primghar Church of Christ, officiating. Burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon. Visitation will be Sunday, June 18, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. with the family present from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon. Darlene Frances Schwarz was born on November 26, 1931 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was the daughter of Frank and Kara (Keyes) Van Steenwyk. She lived her youth in Sheldon where she attended school, graduated from high school and Sheldon Jr. College. She was united in marriage to Frank Lawrence Schwarz of Granville, Iowa in 1950 in Worthington, Minnesota. They lived in Sheldon where Darlene worked as the assistant head cook for the Sheldon school system for 40 years before retiring. Darlene and Frank enjoyed taking care of their flower gardens. They enjoyed taking the family to country western music concerts and rodeos. Frank passed away on May 4, 1995. Darlene took care of sheep at her son, David's acreage by Archer, until retiring in 2016. She had names for all of her sheep, "Missy, Wild One, Baby, and Amy" were some of them. After retiring, she would go to her grandson, Jason and his wife, Becky, and visit her pet sheep. She also liked feeding the neighborhood cats and had a soft spot in her heart for unwanted animals. Darlene enjoyed traveling to Spearfish, South Dakota to visit her son, Salt Lake City, Utah to visit her brother and Glenwood, Minnesota to visit her sister. She was a former member of the Sheldon Church of Christ and presently a member of the Primghar Church of Christ. Darlene passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at her home in Sheldon. Those left to cherish her memories are two sons, David Dean (Shirley) Schwarz of Spearfish, SD and Rodney Eugene (LeeAnn) Schwarz of Sutherland, IA; one daughter, Nancy Lee (Glenn) Chrisman of Sheldon, IA; 6 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great-great-grandchildren; sister, Coreen Paulson of Glenwood, MN; sister-in-law, Marge Van Steenwyk of Bountiful, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Schwarz; her parents; brother, Gib Van Steenwyk; brother-in-law, Les Paulson.
