DANIEL C. STRUVE JR.
Dan, son of Dan and Elsie (Nielsen) Struve was born February 8th 1932 on the family farm in Dale Township north of Paullina. He attended country school through the 6th grade. Continued his education in Paullina and graduated with the class of 1950. He attended Iowa State College for one quarter in the agriculture department. He entered the army in 1952 and was in Japan for one year. He was discharged in 1954 and came home to farm with his dad.
On December 4th, 1955, he married Jean Hunt of Primghar at the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. They lived and farmed one mile east of Paullina for nine years before moving to the farm north of town in 1965. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December of 2005. They had four children, Mark, Gregg, Paul and Lauri.
Dan was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. He served as Deacon and Elder of the church. He was Grandmaster of the Masonic Lodge, was on the Paullina School Board for six years and was on the O’Brien County Board of Supervisors for 32 years. While serving as supervisor, he was on the Third Judicial District board in Sioux City and on the board at the Y.E.S. Center and Cherokee Mental Health Board.
He loved being with his children and grandchildren and attending their ballgames, school and church activities. He loved to travel, and one of his most memorable trips was an Alaskan cruise for their 50th wedding anniversary.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jean, three sons Mark (Cindy) Struve of Sioux City, Gregg Struve and his partner Alex Noah of Chicago, Paul (Cindy) Struve of Paullina and Lauri Struve of Paullina. His grandchildren, Jeffrey and special friend, Keri Johnson, Brian, David, Nathan, Rachel and Jeremy. One sister, Maxine Busch of Paullina One brother in law, Leon (Marge) Hunt of Primghar, and nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother in law Allen Busch.
