Cyril Goedken, age 92, of Sheldon, Iowa, formerly of Ashton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Sheldon Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton, Iowa. Father Siby Punnoose and Father Tim Hogan officiating. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Ashton. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 4, from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Catholic Daughters of America Rosary at 5:00 P.M., Scriptural Wake Service at 6:30 P.M. and Parish Rosary at 7:00 P.M. all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton. Cyril "Cy" Alvin Goedken was born on January 22, 1925 in Adrian, Minnesota. He was the son of Leo and Regina (Schutz) Goedken. He lived his youth in Adrian where he attended school and graduated from Adrian High School. He was united in marriage to Adeline "Ade" Hatting of Ashton, Iowa on August 28, 1950. They lived and farmed in the Ashton area. In 1988, they moved to town. Ade passed away on July 3, 2007. Cy was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ashton and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and joking around with his family and friends. He was a Minnesota Vikings and Twins fan. Cy passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa. Those left to cherish his memories are his children, Keith Goedken of South Sioux City, NE, Colleen Alesch of Denison, IA, Kenny Goedken of Ashton, IA, Karen Johnson of Ashton, IA, Sherri Stange of Council Bluffs, IA, Glen and wife Kathy Goedken of Sheldon, IA, Janelle and husband Doug Fischer of Ashton, IA; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian Heffele of Adrian, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife, Adeline Goedken; son, Randy Goedken; his parents; and brother, Ronald Goedken.
