CLARENCE E. EVANS
Clarence Edward Evans, the son of Paul and Lizzie (Kimmel) Evans was born on September 2, 1921 by rural Sheldon, Iowa. He attended school in the Sheldon School District. Clarence was honorably discharged from the Navy in June of 1946 after serving in WWII. On January 21, 1942, he was united in marriage to Rhelma Martin in the Parsonage of The Church of The Brethren in Worthington, Minnesota. To this union, four children were born. After the couple married they farmed in the Sheldon area until Clarence retired in 1986. The couple remained on the family farm until they moved to the Prairie View Suites in Sanborn, Iowa in March of 2011. He passed away at the Prairie View Retirement Home on Saturday, June 18, 2011 reaching the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 16 days.
He was a very active member of The Church of The Brethren in Sheldon. He was a member of the Sheldon V.F.W. Bunker-Peterson Post #7354 and the American Legion McGlothlen-Cowie Post #145 of Sheldon, Iowa; was a board member of the Farmer’s Coop in Sheldon and was active in 4-H. Clarence’s family was his number one priority in his life. He loved spending time with his family and kids; he enjoyed farming even after his retirement, and was good with animals. Clarence will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 69 years, Rhelma of Sanborn, Iowa; four children, George and his wife, Liz Evans of Burnsville, Minnesota; Toni and her husband, Denny Clemens of Omaha, Nebraska; Emily and her husband, Larry Peterson of George, Iowa; and Julie and her husband, Dan Fisher of Wellman, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Harold Evans.
