Catherine M. Fischer, age 86, of Sheldon, Iowa who passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon. Private Family Funeral Mass will held on Monday, November 16, 2020 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Fr. Siby Punnoose ~ officiating.

Burial with a Private Graveside Service will be at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Visitation Without the Family Present will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa with a Parish Rosary at 4:00 pm.

The family requests that everyone observes the social distancing guidelines

Masks are required during the visitation and the service at the church
with limited seating available for the church service.

The service will be live-streamed on the Eldridge Family Funeral Home Facebook page and will also be uploaded on the website after the service.

Catherine M. Fischer, the daughter of Edward and Ann (Klein) Penning was born on December 2, 1933 in Granville, IA. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Granville and was united in marriage to John A. Fischer on April 4, 1956 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. After their marriage the couple settled in Hospers, IA for 9 months, before moving to Sheldon. Catherine had been employed with Aalfs Manufacturing and at Harker Foods/Tyson for many years, she also tidied-up many a family’s home in Sheldon, including St. Patrick’s Parsonage. Her husband, John preceded her in death on December 31, 2008 in Sanborn, Iowa. Catherine remained in her home until moving to Fieldcrest in 2017 and then into the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care on January 24, 2018. She passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Senior Care, reaching the age of 86 years, 11 months and 7 days.
Catherine was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon. She enjoyed her coffee and exercising. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jolene Fischer of Azusa, CA; Lyle (Darla) Fischer of Orange City, IA; Alan (Jill) Fischer of Beaver Falls, PA; Robert (Robbie) Fischer of Ottawa, KS; Gary (Kathy) Fischer of Buckeye, AZ and a sister-in-law, Lori Fischer of Sheldon, IA; 11 grandchildren, Jen (Robert) Lange, Eric (Danielle) Fischer, Erica Vogelaar; Nathan (Sandy) Fischer, Kyle (Isabel) Fischer; Christopher (Stephanie) Fischer, Alexander (Amanda) Fischer; Andy (Paige) Barrows, Steven Barrows; Courtney Fischer (fiancé, Steven Echols), Devan (Ryan) Wagner; 16 great-grandchildren, a brother, Marvin (Mary) Penning of Nebraska City, NE; 2 sisters, Rosey (Richard) Mayrose of Aurora, CO; Elaine (Lew) Broughton of Tulsa, OK; a sister-in-law, Rosanne Goebel of Worthington, MN; 3 brothers-in-law, Harold (Ardell) Fischer of Fulda, MN; Gerald (Yvonne) Fischer of Rock Valley, IA; Gerome (Rita) Fischer of Hospers, IA. Also several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, John; a son, Jim; her parents, a sister, Patsy (Ed) Cole, 3 brothers, Harold (Delores) Penning, Sylvester Penning, Dan (Jan) Penning and a sister-in-law, Kristine (Don) Sauer.
