BONNIE B. PAULING
Bonnie Belle (Loucks) Pauling, was born February 23, 1923 in Hartley, Iowa. The daughter of Burton Loucks (who passed away shortly after Bonnie’s birth in 1924) and Matie (Hilbert), who in 1929, married James Wilcoxon and brought two young daughters, Maureen and Ada into the family. Bonnie attended grade school in Paullina and graduated from Paullina Public High School in 1941. Bonnie went on to attend N.B.T. Business School in Sioux City for over a year. After her schooling she moved to California and went to work for the Douglas Aircraft Corporation, in the medical department for 5 years. Bonnie then moved back to Paullina and met Francis Pauling after his discharge from the Marines. On February 11, 1947, they were married at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived on the Fintel farm near Paullina. They moved to Lewisville, Minnesota, which the family liked as a special community. In 1963, they returned to Paullina and settled on the Pauling Family Farm, which they farmed until their retirement. For over twenty years, Bonnie worked as a secretary for the Iowa Area 4, two school superintendents and several county offices in Primghar and Sioux Center. Francis preceded her in death on February 26, 1997 in Orange City, Iowa. After his passing Bonnie moved into an apartment in Paullina.
Bonnie is survived by her two sons and their wives, Mark and Margaret Pauling of Fremont, Ohio; Bruce and Marcia Pauling of Jackson, Nebraska; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Ada and her husband, Dick Gorman of Mesa, Arizona; nieces; nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis; her parents, her sister, Maureen and her husband, Marshall Wynn.
Bonnie was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary; first in Lewisville, Minnesota and currently in Paullina.
She had be a resident of the Paullina Care Center until entering the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa and passing away on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, reaching the age of 82 years, 2 months and 4 days.
