BERNICE M. IVERSON
Bernice Mary Iverson was born July 15, 1916 in Dale Township, OBrien County, Iowa, the third child of Samuel Andrew and Myrtle (Siefkin) Gillespie. She attended Dale country school #6 and graduated from Primghar High School in 1932. Bernice graduated from Pauls Hairdressing Academy in Minneapolis in 1937 and was a hair dresser in Sheldon and Primghar, Iowa.
She married Sherman B. Iverson March 11, 1943 in Wilmington, Delaware, when Sherman was stationed at Ft. DuPont in W.W. II prior to his deployment to North Africa. Following Shermans discharge from the Army, the couple farmed near Archer, Iowa for 32 years. In 1979, they moved to Paullina.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina. Bernice enjoyed knitting, quilting, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and e-mailing her family.
Bernice passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at her home in Paullina, sitting in her favorite chair looking out the window. She reached the age of 98 years, 9 months and 2 days.
Thankful for sharing her life are daughter-in-law, Linda (Don) Imhoff and granddaughters, Laurel (Kevin) Hitchcock of Birmingham, AL; Jessica Iverson and great granddaughter, Kendall of Evanston, IL; son, Wendell (Pam) Iverson of Wassenaar, Netherlands and grandchildren, Kate Iverson (Erik Versteegen) and future great granddaughter of Den Hague, Netherlands and John (Irene) Iverson of Duluth, GA; son, Keith (Nancy) Iverson of Sanborn, IA and grandchildren, Nate (Lisa) Iverson of Highlands Ranch, CO; Heidi Iverson and husband, Will McCollum of Sebastopol, CA and Evette Iverson (Pete Hayes) of Pittsboro, NC; daughter, Martha (Stan) Carpenter and granddaughters, Jennifer Carpenter of Urbandale, IA and Molly Carpenter of Rockville, MD; and brothers, Ray Gillespie of Lake Park, IA and Lyle Gillespie of Manitou Springs, CO and sister-in-law, Barbara Gillespie of Alcester, SD.
Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman on May 21, 1988; her son, Kenneth on December 21, 1990; sisters, Gladys McDowell, Corrine Gillespie, Edith Parrish, and brothers, Lowell and Gilbert Wayne Gillespie.
