BERNETTE E. SKAAR

Bernette Evelyn Skaar, the daughter of Chester and Christina (Meeling) Skaar, was born on April 25, 1921 in Cylinder, Iowa. She received her education in Primghar Schools graduating from Primghar High School in 1943. She went on to Waldorf Junior College in Forest City, Iowa for one year. She returned to the family farm near Primghar because of her health and helped her parents. The family later moved into Primghar to make their home and in 2001, Bernette moved to the Primghar Care Center. She passed away at the care center on Sunday, December 3, 2006, reaching the age of 85 years, 7 months and 8 days.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar and had served as the Sunday school secretary and for 25 years, she was the church’s financial secretary. She made many beautiful quilts and also made doll clothes and quilts for the dolls. She enjoyed scrap booking and had many scrap books of the events in Primghar; she also enjoyed cooking and traveling.
Bernette is survived by two sisters, Arlet and her husband, Harlan Baustian of North Platte, Nebraska and Alice Skaar of Primghar, Iowa; two brothers, Donald and his wife, Elaine Skaar of North Oaks, Minnesota and Harold Skaar of Primghar, Iowa; also many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Arnold.

God’s finger touched her and she slipped away
From earth’s dark shadows to a brighter day;
God saw the road was getting rough.
The hills were hard to climb;
He gently closed her weary eyes.
And whispered, “Peace be thine.”
To a beautiful garden this friend has gone.
To a land of perfect rest;
Though she is gone she still lives on
in the garden of memory.
