Toyna L. Kooiman, age 53, of Sheldon who passed away on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa.

Tonya Lynn Kooiman was born on August 14, 1964 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Tonya spent her late teens and early 20s traveling where she lived in Texas, Italy, Georgia and California. She settled in Sioux Falls in 1990 where she met Ken. On February 14, 1991 she was united in marriage to Kenneth Kooiman at the Wayside Chapel in rural Sioux Center, Iowa. The couple made their home in Northwest Iowa where Tonya raised her children. Tonya lost her courageous fight with breast cancer on Friday, June 15, 2018 at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon reaching the age of 53 years, 10 months and 1 day.
Tonya enjoyed crafting, reading, baking and yard work. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed making life as magical for her children and grandchildren. Also, an important part of her life was her grandparents, Alvina and Lincoln Nelson.
Left to cherish Tonya’s memory is her husband of 27 years, Kenneth of Sheldon; children, David Kooiman and Meghan Kooiman; grandchildren, Samantha, Brooke, Shantel, Jamison and Aiden; also other relatives and friends.
