ERNEST A. WINTER
Ernest Adolf Winter, the son of William H. and Dorathea (Bahlke) Winter was born on February 9, 1933 on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church near Boyden. Ernest attended St. Johns country Day School through 8th grade and also worked on the family farm with his dad and brothers. Ernest enlisted in the United States Army in December of 1954 and was honorably discharged in December of 1956. He completed his GED from the Army. On November 30, 1961, Ernest was united in marriage to Carol Molmen at St. John Lutheran Church. After their marriage, they farmed on the Winter family farm. His operation consisted of growing crops, dairy cows, feeder cattle and hogs. He was very proud of his farm as he took very good care of his acreage where he also helped build all the farm buildings. He also built an automated bunk feeder for his feeder cattle. After retiring from farming in 1995, they had a house built in Boyden for their retirement years. He spent four years at Demco. In June, Ernest moved to Happy Siesta Care Center where he passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, reaching the age of 84 years and 6 months.
Ernest was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church. He also served on the Coop board. He loved taking trips with his family to visit other family members from a distance. He enjoyed woodworking, checkers and board games in general. His grandchildren were very special to him.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Carol of Boyden; children, Jeanette and Rich Meyer of Harris, Iowa, Brenda Winter of Remsen, Iowa and Bev and Jack Rolfes of Orange City, Iowa; six grandchildren, Wade (Karen), Lindsey, Chad, Alyssa, Nicole and Austin; sister in law, Fenna Winter; also, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert, Fritz, Louis and Arnold Winter; sisters, Betty McKnight and Martha Winter and a niece, Karen (Winter) Schmidt.
